Spring is a season of change, the beginning of new things. How often do we go through changes without realizing something new is starting?
Can you look back at a time when you were becoming someone new? But you didn’t realize it then?
For me, it would be the unexpected email that sent me out of state to a writer’s conference. Little did I know that was the start of a journey to a whole new life, in ways that stretched far beyond writing.
For this month’s writing prompt, let’s celebrate the beginning of spring by writing about a time when you were becoming someone new, but you didn’t know it yet.

A writing prompt is just something that helps you free write. You set a timer for 10-15 minutes, start with the prompt, and see where you end up. No self-editing along the way. Just write.
You can start with this sentence:
“I didn’t know it at the time, but that was the beginning of …”
And just see where your free writing takes you.
Free writing doesn’t need to relate to your current writing project. It can be about any topic. I’d even encourage you to free write on a topic that’s different from your writing project.
Free writing helps grow your creativity and writing muscles. You’ll benefit when you return to your writing project. Free writing often helps you approach your project from a new perspective.
Choose a day this week and set that timer for 10-15 minutes. Just see what happens. Enjoy the art of simply writing.
