Enjoy Fall Writing Moments

Fall is a beautiful, atmospheric time of year. Fall leaves in hues of red, yellow, orange. The aroma and taste of pumpkin spice. A crisp morning breeze and the warmth of a cozy sweater. It’s a season that makes us want to slow down and savor.

It’s also one of the busiest seasons of the year. So many activities. Places to go, things to do. Rushing around, trying to get it all in. If you’re working on a writing project, you may wonder how you can possibly find time to write, let alone slow down to enjoy the season.

Fall is an opportunity to make those two goals work together. What if you can carve out a few moments, here and there, to enjoy the fall atmosphere and keep your writing project going at the same time?

Start by thinking of what kind of moment will help you enjoy the quietness of fall? Is it taking a short walk outside? Visiting a pumpkin patch? Looking at a decorative display? Savoring a cup of pumpkin spice? Whatever that restoring moment is, carve out time for it.

You don’t need to bring your writing project straight into that moment. Take time first to enjoy the fall atmosphere. Breathe in the scents. Listen to the sounds. Feel the chill and the warmth. Gaze at the beauty.

After you’ve enjoyed a quiet fall moment, take a little time to reflect on your writing project before getting back to your day. Those fall moments will heighten your senses, stir your creativity, free your mind. Make the most of it.

You don’t need to sit down and write a chapter or certain number of words unless you want to. You can capture ideas, brainstorm, create a bullet-point list, describe a scene, look for photos to go with your story, write a journal entry, reflect on memories, or just think about your project while enjoying the fall atmosphere.

If you come away from that moment with words on a page, great. If not, you’ve still spent meaningful time focusing on your writing project. Those ideas will lead to more ideas. Be ready to jot them down as they come to mind later in the day.

Most importantly, you will have spent time enjoying the beauty of fall in the midst of the busyness. You will have spent creative time for yourself. You’ll have kept your writing project at the forefront of your mind. And you’ll be ready to find even more enjoyment in the rest of your day.

Let the beauty of fall give you a creative boost and some moments of peace. Your writing project will benefit and so will your wellbeing.
